Amy Brown

Amy Brown is a watercolorist whose work is known around the world.  Amy Brown learned most of her techniques and styles from working at the gallery Festival of Art where she read every art, printing, framing and business article available about art.  Her work is influenced by Arthur Rackham, Brian Froud, and Alan Lee.  She is also influenced by Jim Henson’s famous movies; The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and Legend.  She derives aspects from all of these influences and her own imagination to create her fine works of art.

Amy Brown’s work is mostly of the world of Faery.  Her work contains images of faery people, as well as their familiars.  Her work is also centered on the Green Man.  The Green Man is a representation of a face surrounded by or made from leaves.  Branches or vines may sprout from the nose, mouth, nostrils or other parts of the face.  Green Man works can be seen throughout the art world, and are also used in different types of architecture.  The processes of her works and how she portrays them are some of the most intriguing aspects of her works.  She uses salts in her watercolors and well as different layering techniques to create each other her works.

Amy Brown’s work gives us access to a world beyond our wildest dreams.  We are able to catch glimpses of these faery folk, which otherwise we may have never known about.  We can also see ceremonies known in the faery world, such as seeing the high queens and different forms of nature.  Her works are a gateway to a new world; one which people may not believe exists, but is great fantasy.  Her works with water color and subject matter are what make her a fine artist.
